Another Furry Convention – Art Show

Thank you for your interest in the Another Furry Convention’s (AFC) Art Show!

What is the Art Show? This event is a silent auction running from Friday to Saturday, in which creators will show their works, selling to the highest bidder. You must be at least 18 years of age to sell or purchase through the Art Show.

Please, do not wear fursuits within the Art Show - our space is limited and our pieces are fragile! There will be a Bag Check station prior to entering the Art Show, as there are no personal bags allowed within the space. The Bag Check will be manned by an Art Show volunteer staffer during all operating hours. Absolutely no photography in the Art Show space.

You’ve got nothing to lose! AFC is committed to offering a platform for artists of all sizes. The 1st half space upon approval into the Art Show is absolutely free. Need more space? No problem! Each additional half space is $5.00 USD.  We recommend fragile pieces (glass, sculpture, interactive, etc) to be requested as a table space.

Display Surfaces

Grid Wall

Half: 2 Foot x 4 Foot

Whole 2 Foot x 8 Foot

Classroom Table

Half: 4 Foot x 18 inches

Whole: 8 Foot x 18 Inches

Please note:

If your showing does not occupy a full space, AFC Art Show reserves the right to consolidate displays.

We highly recommend using framing or matting to support and protect 2-D art pieces.

Grid Wall hanging supplies (binder clips) will be provided by AFC.

At this time, AFC is NOT accepting mail in art (without an appointed on site agent) NOR Display Only / Not For Sale pieces.

Artist Application Process

If you are interested in selling in the AFC Art Show, you should submit an application providing a link to a portfolio of works you plan to display. If you do not have a public portfolio, images in a Google Drive link in the application will be sufficient (make sure the drive is publicly viewable when sharing). You will also select what kind of space and how much you are requesting. Once artist selection has been completed, all applicants will receive an email with a response to their application.

Artist Selection

Artist selection will be based on a Jury selection system — not first come, first served. There is a vested interest in applications that include originals, traditional media, one-of-a-kind works, and physical media (e.g., jewelry, sculpture, textile work). Please invest time in your application, including your portfolio, and take time to show off your best work. Giving us an idea of what you plan to bring really helps with our planning.

Fees and Commissions

In addition to any cost associated with requested panels, a commission fee is assessed after bidding has closed for all sold pieces. A 15% commission (8.75% covering California sales tax, and 6.25% AFC service charge).  Income tax will be the sole responsibility of the selling artist.

Agents

If you (the displaying artist) are unable to be present at AFC, there is the option to designate an agent to act on your behalf within the Art Show system. The named agent is then responsible for displaying your work and picking up any unsold pieces after the show. AFC does not provide agents, so this would be someone you are working with on your own terms.

Content Guidelines

The AFC Art Show is a special interest event. The artwork and pieces displayed during this event should be focused on the general interest of the furry fandom.  Art displayed during the art show should have an anthropomorphic focus, or contain wildlife, or fantasy creature themes appropriate to the fandom.

General Audience vs Mature Audience

The Art Show will offer a zoned Mature Audience display in addition to the General Audience displays. Works that depict nudity, sexual content, violence, or illicit substance use must be displayed in the Adult (18+) area. All works displayed must follow our content policies.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Generated Art

Artwork created using artificial intelligence to automate image creation is strictly prohibited. Tools and features embedded in creation software (ie Photoshop, SAI, Procreate) do not fall under this restriction.

Print Pieces

Limited-run prints are allowed to be shown, with “limited” defined as fewer than 500. Prints must include the number of the print with the print run, “3 of 200.” The method of printing must be included in the description, along with the destruction of the plate if applicable.

Other prohibited content

The following items are expressly forbidden to be displayed at the Art Show. The Art Show leadership and convention leadership will have the final say in any questionable pieces.

Any sexual artwork depicting children or entities appearing to be children.

Any sexual artwork depicting non-anthropomorphic characters.

Any sexual artwork depicting only human characters.

Any artwork that could be considered a threat or defamation of any living person.

Artwork of a copyrighted or trademarked character will be considered if the subject has given written expressed permission for the art piece to be displayed. Parody pieces may also be allowed at the final discretion of the art show leadership or convention leadership. There is a fine line between parody and hurtful.

Any artwork using hate or hateful Iconography.

Any artwork displaying political rhetoric or propaganda.
